3. STUDENT SUPPORT
a) Learning Centre
The DAIS Learning Centre provides resources, instruction and opportunities for
collaboration to foster academic excellence and lifelong learning. Satellite libraries
are found on most floors with age appropriate resources. The librarians collaborate
to have a significant and measurable impact on student learning, by ensuring that
students are efficient and ethical users and producers of ideas, information,
effective users of technology and enthusiastic readers. Librarians and teacher
partnership contributes significantly to nurture inquiry and agency, stimulate
creativity and critical thinking, encourage collaboration and communication.
High-quality print and digital resources are easily accessible through Destiny
Discover Collections and are carefully curated and organized to support the
national and international curriculum, different ages, needs, perspectives, and
personal interests.
b) Student Care Department
The school provides an inclusive learning environment that equips children to bring
out the best in themselves. The School recognizes the importance of creating a
support system accessible to all students. Additional support and resources, such as
differentiated teaching and learning strategies, Individualized Educational
Plans(IEPs), assistive technology, and pastoral care, are provided to students with
learning or social-emotional challenges, enabling them to perform to their
potential.
The Student Care department encompasses Learning Support and Counselling
Services. Learning support is extended to students with temporary or short-term
learning challenges and those with special educational needs (SEN). Counselling
and pastoral care are extended to all students with social-emotional and
behavioural needs. The Student Care Team helps students understand and accept
challenges they face at school and equips them with skills to effectively deal with
them. It supports parents and teachers in appreciating differing learning abilities
and psychological needs of students. Appropriate action plans are put into place to
optimize their learning. The team also plans and collaborates with the class
teachers, and tutors to implement the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum
across school.
A referral is made in collaboration with the educators, the Student Care team, and
parents. At DAIS, the parent consent form is an essential document. All student
care services are provided with parental consent and agreement.
The school seeks special arrangements and authorisation from relevant
examination boards, so that examination conditions do not put students with
diagnosed learning difficulties at a disadvantage. Board-approved examination
access arrangements are made available to students, where appropriate. Every
effort is made to ensure that they have full access to the curriculum and are
integrated into all aspects of school life.
