THE VOICE OF AN APE
                                                      6 B                                                                             I wonder if the air will ever feel pure again.
                                                                                                                                          I am the keeper of ancient forests.
                                                                                                                                   I hear the crack of trees falling like thunder tearing
                                                                                                                                                  through the sky.
                                                                                                                               I see my kind vanish, our footprints fading like whispers in
                                                                                                                                                     the wind.
                                                                                                                                  I want to hold the world in balance, as we once did.
                                                                                                                                 I am the keeper of ancient forests, and my heart beats
                                                                                                                                             with the pulse of the earth.
                                                                                                                                I pretend I do not know their intentions, though they are
                                                                                                                                      as clear as the storm gathering underneath.
                                                                                                                                I feel the weight of their progress pressing against my chest.
                                                                                                                                     I touch the bark of trees that no longer exist.
                                                                                                                                 I worry that their hunger will devour even the stars and
                                                                                                                                 the sky, leaving only a void where once there was light.
                                                                                                                               I cry for rivers choked by greed, their once-pristine waters.
                                                                                                                                I am the keeper of ancient forests, demanding humans to stop.
                                                                                                                                 I understand they think they are important, but they're
                                                                                                                                                like ships lost in a fog.
