Model United Nations is an excellent and realistic simulation of the U.N. General Assembly and other multilateral organisations. Over the last 50 years, these conferences have assumed significance in the curricula of schools all over the world promoting interest in international relations and engaging students in debates and discussions on issues/conflicts that need resolution. MUN conferences call for detailed and meticulous research skills, critical thinking, enhanced cooperative skills, sensitivity in understanding global concerns and conflicts and excellent communication skills. Apart from our own DAIMUN, students also participate every year in THIMUN (Hague and Singapore). This year saw DAIS students opening the Italian chapter by participating in RIMUN (Rome).
A valuable platform that tests students’ skills of diplomacy, confidence and knowledge, it inspires young minds with the spirit of inquiry and understanding. DAIMUN plays a key role in fostering students’ leadership potential and commitment to civic engagement. The DAIMUN Conferences are completely student-run and is in keeping with the purpose of education at Dhirubhai Ambani International School – to develop character, courage, confidence and self-esteem in students, apart from providing them a sound basis in academics. The themes at the DAIMUN conferences include terrorism, international human rights violation, energy crisis, anti-corruption, religious divide, media as democracy, New World Order and Foreign Intervention.
