KUMBHARGHAR ADIVASI WADI, near Patalganga -

A small tribal village, located near the outskirts of Mumbai (Co ordinates: 18° 43’ 36. 58”N / 73° 12’ 03.084”E), consists of a small tribal community caught between traditional ways of survival and the modern world.

PROFILE -

The Villagers

  • The village consists of around 42 households with 211 people with only two senior citizens.
  • The Men-Women ratio (adults) is 64:62 while that for children, it is 57:29

Sources of Income

  • There is no agricultural activity as the villagers do not own any land.
  • All villagers except one are uneducated and many of them have to work for money lenders to settle outstanding debts.
  • Many Villagers collect fire wood from the near by forests and sell it in the market for paltry sums to earn a livelihood.
  • They have no poultry or cattle.

Access to Potable Water

The village has two water tanks made by the government which supplies water to the village and another 5 nearby villages.
