Conference Day 2

Home » Day 2

Visit to Reliance Solar Energy Plant

The day began with an educational trip to the Reliance Solar Energy Plant. Students had the opportunity to witness first-hand how solar energy is harnessed and managed on a large scale. The visit offered valuable insights into the role of renewable energy in reducing dependence on conventional power sources, addressing climate change, and shaping a sustainable future. By observing advanced technology and operations in action, students were able to connect their theoretical understanding with practical, real-world applications.

The delegates then visited the Reliance Bioenergy Centre. The centre utilises agricultural residues—typically produced during stubble burning—to generate energy. The Jamnagar team is working towards replacing fossil fuels with biomass and other green energy sources, making substantial progress towards a more sustainable future and aligning directly with the RS IDEAL of Environmentalism.

Students visited the Reliance Solar Energy Plant and Bioenergy Centre, gaining insights into renewable energy. They presented creative solutions on sustainability aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The evening featured Garba dancing, artisan displays, and a local dinner that sparked discussions on innovation and cultural identity.

Presentations on Sustainable Innovation Solutions

The afternoon was dedicated to the much-anticipated presentations of the Sustainable Innovation Solutions pre-task. In groups, students showcased their research and ideas on sustainability challenges linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Each presentation highlighted a clearly identified problem, an innovative science- or technology-based solution, and the process through which the design was developed. Feasibility, implementation strategies, and resource requirements were also thoughtfully addressed.
The range of ideas included:

  • Waste management solutions – improved segregation systems and reduction models.
  • Eco-friendly alternatives – biodegradable materials, reusable products, and sustainable lifestyle practices.
  • Renewable energy initiatives – innovative ways to harness energy and use sustainable options.
  • Smart streetlight systems – energy-efficient lighting designed for urban settings.
  • AI-powered energy-conserving apps – mobile applications that track, analyze, and reduce daily energy use.
  • Community awareness campaigns – strategies to promote responsible choices and sustainability education.
  • Rain-harvested water for robotic irrigation – using stored rainwater and automated systems to optimize agricultural and garden watering.
  • Urban planning solutions – designs that balance infrastructure growth with environmental care.

These presentations reflected not only creativity and analytical thinking but also the students’ ability to envision themselves as changemakers, capable of driving meaningful action within their schools and communities.

Evening Cultural Immersion

The evening program brought a vibrant cultural immersion. Delegates participated in a lively Garba dance session, joining in with enthusiasm and experiencing the joy and rhythm of this Gujarati festive tradition. Alongside, artisans from Kutch displayed their rich heritage through stalls featuring bandhani sarees and dupattas, lac bangles, and decorative pieces. The artisans also explained the history and techniques behind their crafts, giving delegates a deeper appreciation of the artistry and traditions of the region.
This blend of dance, dialogue, and displays created a memorable evening that celebrated Gujarat’s cultural heritage while encouraging exchange, appreciation, and respect for local craftsmanship.

Dinner and Reflections

The evening concluded with a local-themed dinner, giving delegates the opportunity to enjoy authentic regional cuisine and flavors of Gujarat. Over the shared meal, open discussions unfolded, as delegates reflected on the day’s experiences. Conversations ranged from the role of innovation in sustainability to the value of cultural traditions in shaping identity and community. This exchange allowed delegates to connect across backgrounds, reinforcing the spirit of Round Square — collaboration, respect, and global understanding.
