College Counselling

Finding the right university for each student can only be achieved through a joint effort involving the student, his/her parents, teachers, administrators and our college counsellors.
Because our students are highly motivated to excel and over the years have achieved outstanding examination results, universities around the world are eager to receive applications from them. However, it is important to remember that each year the competition for admissions to the world’s leading universities is on the rise. Our counsellors help each student find the universities where their applications will receive the most favourable consideration.

DAIS alumni pursue their studies in India, USA, UK, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Abu Dhabi and Holland and it is important to note that the university application process differs from country to country. Our counsellors guide students through the requirements of each system and advise them on the widely differing expectations of the thousands of universities around the world. These expectations cover both the student’s academic performance from Class IX onwards to completion of the IB Diploma programme and his/her behaviour and participation in school life and activities. As competition for places increases, universities raise their benchmarks and information on their websites indicating IB points score requirements for different courses may be out of date.
Each student’s preparation for university, therefore, begins from Class IX as the skills, study habits and attitudes acquired and demonstrated early on are those that will be reflected in students’ applications and the recommendations that teachers will be able to write for them. Through their ICSE/IGCSE courses students learn to work in groups, manage their time outside of class, structure projects and homework into achievable deadlines, work with the community, and design goals for their future.
The IB Diploma programme allows for focus on specific subjects and the further enhancement of the individual’s applications through active participation in Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) and other areas of school life.

Choosing the right university is a critical family decision. The university has to provide both the course the student wants to study as well as the lifestyle and security that will allow parents to be comfortable in the knowledge that their child is going to be able to flourish. It is also a decision involving a great deal of expense and our counsellors will be able to provide specific information regarding this aspect of the process. Starting in Class X with career information and course choice guidance for the IB Diploma, right through to the end of Class XII when the student receives those coveted letters of admission, our counsellors help and advise in any way that they can to make the process as smooth as possible for each student.
During the last ten years, our IBDP graduates have gained admission to the world's top universities like Oxford, Cambridge, University College London, Imperial, King's College, London School of Economics, Warwick, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, U-Penn, UC-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, University of Michigan, University of Chicago, Boston, NYU, Brown, Tufts, Northwestern, McGill, University of Hong Kong, University of Melbourne, University of British Columbia, Sciences Po and Rhode Island School of Design, amongst others.
