Our Class Trip to 'Om Creations'

On 7th October 2016, classes 5A and B visited Om Creations, a social enterprise.

Om Creations Trust offers training projects for holistic and educational rehabilitation of mentally challenged women, from age 20yrs onwards.

The objective of the organization is to impart vocational training to adults who are mentally challenged, with Down syndrome and aiding them towards gaining dignity of life.

Then we got an explanation, which filled our hearts with emotion.

We were all so excited. Once we arrived, we saw all the amazing things that the young women had created. We were impressed by how precise, pretty and professional they all looked.

We saw some of them making ‘torans’, that decorate our homes on festive occasions.

We couldn’t believe that they could make such wonderful things.

Then we had the opportunity to help them. We were divided into smaller groups, each involved in a different activity.

The first group painted Diwali ‘diyas’. It was very fascinating that they were making the color and the ‘diyas’ themselves. They taught us how to paint them too and how to string the beads onto the ‘torans’. We all felt so happy to help them.

However, I think everyone’s favorite activity was learning how to wrap chocolates. We all took turns and wrapped around 15 chocolates each.

We all were learning so much from the hard working, confident, happy and self-respecting individuals. They were truly very talented.

This field trip was a learning experience for all of us. We each made a special connection with the young adults, who patiently taught us what they do and how we could help them, and do our bit meticulously. It was a lovely learning experience and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It felt nice after working and interacting with the young adults.
