Thimun Singapore 2013

The THIMUN Singapore trip for IGCSE year 9&10 and ICSE year 9 was a truly enriching and educating experience for all of us who attended. Most of us had been to several MUNs in Mumbai, however we were still nervous as to the level of debate and the large scale of such a conference. We didn't just want to attend the conference but also to excel in our various committees. Our school was assigned the delegations of Malaysia and Brazil, and despite their seeming unimportance in world policy, through further research we realized that they play important roles as developing nations in international and regional politics.

These school arranged an extremely wonderful trip for us not only by giving us the opportunity to participate in such an event but by also taking on us on a wonderful day trip of Singapore and even the Night Safari. When we toured Singapore, keeping in

mind the purpose of our visit instead of the usual amusement parks we were given a tour of the East coast and taken to a World War memorial museum, that truly helped us further realize the devastation that an armed conflict can cause, and the importance of our deliberations as MUNners. We even got to visit Singapore's newest attraction Gardens by the Bay where the mini climates within the conservatories were extremely fascinating.

The conference itself was an overwhelming yet extremely stimulating experience where, thanks to all the hard work, each member of our delegation did extremely well. As main submitters, main co-submitters and as MUNners every single delegate thoroughly impressed no only the chairs of the various committees but also the teachers from other schools. Though there were no awards at THIMUN many of us received letters of recommendation from our chairs which was in itself a huge honour.

The conference taught us not only the skills of debating and expressing ourselves effectively but also the importance of compromise and diplomacy. At the end of the day it is not how much we spoke in committee or the resolutions we passed but whether or not we were able to contribute positively to create constructive solutions.
