THIMUN Hague Report 2025

The THIMUN Hague 2025 Conference Report

Every year, our school proudly selects a delegation of students to participate in The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) held in the Netherlands. This prestigious conference brings together students from diverse cultural backgrounds to engage in diplomacy, debate, and global problem-solving. This year, an 18-member delegation from DAIS represented Oman and UN-Habitat, with students serving as delegates, student officers, and members of the press team.

The students had the opportunity to explore the city’s historical and cultural landmarks before the conference commenced. Their first official day included a visit to the Peace Palace, a symbol of international justice, and a relaxing walk along the beach. Student officers; Aanya Shah: Deputy President of The Security Council, Riddimma Sampat: Deputy Chair of General Assembly 2 (ECOFIN), Aarav Reddy: Deputy Chair of General Assembly 6 (Legal Committee) and press team members; Kiana Fernandez and Azadeh Changrani Rastogi, then proceeded to The World Forum, the main venue for the conference, for preparatory sessions, while the remaining delegates explored the city’s rich history through guided tours and cultural activities. This experience provided an invaluable introduction to The Hague, reinforcing its significance as an international hub of diplomacy.

The conference began with lobbying sessions, where delegates collaborated with international peers to build alliances and draft resolutions addressing pressing global issues. This conference focused on the theme of “The Impact of AI on Humanity.” Global issues such as artificial intelligence, Islamophobia, racism, antisemitism, and the protection of human rights were discussed in GA1-6, GA77, ECOSOC, HRC, SDC, and SPC. Several of our delegates took the floor to deliver opening speeches, confidently presenting their stance on key topics. Their participation did not go unnoticed, as many were recognized by their committee chairs for their eloquence and depth of analysis. Meanwhile, our press delegates diligently worked behind the scenes, capturing the essence of the conference through insightful reports and media coverage, ensuring that key moments were documented and shared.

As representatives of Oman and the UN-Habitat, our students engaged in thought-provoking debates and negotiations within their respective committees. Their contributions were marked by well-researched arguments and effective collaboration with other delegations to draft comprehensive resolutions. Speeches were delivered by The Ambassador of Argentina to the Netherlands, the President of the NATO summit from which the delegates gained insightful understandings. Beyond formal committee sessions, they embraced informal discussions, refining their diplomatic strategies and broadening their perspectives on international affairs. The exposure to diverse viewpoints helped them develop a deeper understanding of global policymaking, strengthening their ability to think critically and respond to complex international challenges.

THIMUN was not just a platform for debate but also an opportunity to forge meaningful relationships with students from around the world. Through informal conversations, social events, and collaborative teamwork, our delegates exchanged ideas, learned about different cultures, and built lasting friendships. The conference provided a unique environment for students to enhance their public speaking, negotiation, and leadership skills while developing a global outlook on international affairs.

Our school delegation returned from The Hague with a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a newfound appreciation for diplomacy. Their ability to engage in constructive discussions, articulate well-reasoned arguments, and collaborate with international peers exemplified the core values of Model United Nations. As ambassadors of DAIS, they made the school proud through their dedication, intellect, and enthusiasm for global discourse. The experience our delegates had at THIMUN The Hague 2025 will be an everlasting memento.
