I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to speak at India’s leading TEDx conference. It gave me the chance to speak about my passion in the hope of inspiring other girls like me to explore science and technology. More importantly, I found that there were a number of other global speakers that shared my views: it was during a dinner conversation, with Mr. Jerry Sanders- CEO SkyTran (a NASA sponsored company that innovates Magnetic Levitation Rapid Transport systems) where he told me that this world is still “hostile to women in STEM”.

To me leadership is about finding inspiration and then inspiring others. The response to my talk was hugely encouraging. People tweeted about quotes from my talk. The other speakers congratulated me. One lady came up to me and said, “I am going to show this talk to my 10 year old daughter because you are truly inspiring”. I was even able to go on radio and talk about my idea for social change. The concept of TED helped me make a difference, however small. I believe that this millennium is for us to “leave the bounds” of our planet and reach beyond. I am optimistic to be a part of this exciting journey along with many other girls like me.
