Jai Vakeel Foundation - 15th October, 2019

The Grade 6 students look forward to their annual social service trips. The excitement on their faces, and restlessness during the 45 minute long bus ride to the Jai Vakeel Foundation, revealed their eagerness to visit the foundation and learn more about their work.

On arrival, a short briefing about the Jai Vakeel foundation was given to the students, where they learnt that it is the largest non-profit institution, school and research center, which aids differently-abled children. They learnt about intellectual disabilities and the problems faced by the children, while growing up in modest families, especially in today’s society that does not accept them for who they are. The briefing highlighted the noble cause Jai Vakeel foundation works towards. Their approach is holistic; they aim to integrate their students into mainstream society, by providing them with healthcare, education, skill development and support services.

The Jai Vakeel foundation has put together, the first of its kind curriculum, for students between 3 to 18 years. This curriculum includes Languages, Math, Environmental Studies, Art, Yoga and skills of daily living.

After a quick tour of the campus, there was interaction between our students and the children the foundation works with. Our students helped the children make paper ‘diyas’ and lanterns. The children at Jai Vakeel were all keen to make them and took on the tasks given to them enthusiastically. This short interaction helped our students appreciate and acknowledge the virtue of kindness and compassion.

A haven nestling in the bustling life of Mumbai, Jai Vakeel Foundation is a beacon of light and hope for many, and the services they render cannot be measured in words. Their work is an inspiration for all our students. Our students were enriched through interactions with the foundation.
