RIMUN 2025
On 26th March 2025, the delegation arrived in the heart of Italy, the cradle of Western Civilisation– the Eternal City of Rome, for the eighteenth edition of the Rome International Model United Nations. After a smooth arrival in the afternoon, the delegation was warmly welcomed by their host families. The remainder of the day was spent settling in and bonding with hosts, taking in Rome's way of life: “La Dolce Vita”.

The following day, the delegation delved deeper into the world’s tiniest nation– Vatican City. They were captivated by the dimensions of St. Peter’s Basilica and the dignified aura of serenity it held, making the trip both spiritually and culturally enriching. They toured the Sistine Chapel, mesmerised by the ceiling embellished with Michelangelo’s breathtaking artistry brought to life by one of the first usages of the Mannerist style. The Vatican Museum served as a storehouse of invaluable treasures of such massive scale, detail, and fine craftsmanship, many of which were remnants from Rome’s Golden Age.

The third day began with the grand opening ceremony at the Galileo Galilei School where the delegates were introduced to this year's theme, “Brave New Frontiers”, one that pushes delegates to dream bigger, think deeper, and embrace the unknown as a canvas for innovation, progress, and re-evaluation, while maintaining global unity in doing so. Post-ceremony, and after a good scoop of authentic Italian gelato, the delegates headed towards one of the most iconic buildings of Rome, the Colosseum, taking them on a brief journey through time from 44 BCE to the present day, as we strolled past the Mighty Tiber, a Brute-al battlefield for major power dynamics in the Roman Empire, the "Mouth of Truth" (Bocca della Verità) an ancient marble mask, the Arch of Constantine, and the historical Roman Forum standing beside its modern counterpart– the United Nations Headquarters (Food and Agricultural Organisation) showcasing the universal balance that Rome has perfected, once again resonating with the theme of the conference– “Brave New Frontiers”, one that aligns itself with the school’s vision of nurturing global citizens firmly rooted and proud of their cultural background but sailing confidently into the future. The day concluded with the delegation and their hosts enjoying some bowling.

On 29th March, the first day of committee sessions commenced at Liceo Farnesina. Delegates assumed their roles and began lobbying and formulating draft resolutions. For the chairs, it was a unique chance to witness diplomacy in action from the other side of the table and encourage solution-oriented constructive debate. The sessions were dynamic, with some passionate speeches, challenging questions, and powerful perspectives, with the enormous amount of diversity that the delegates brought with them from over 13 different countries.

The momentum continued into the 30th and 31st March, as delegates tackled deeper discussions and refined their resolutions. They brought with them intense negotiation and sharp debate – but also moments of laughter and camaraderie, be it ambushing their chairs and arresting them or performing embarrassing punishments. Delegates grew in confidence and clarity, forming friendships that extended beyond committee walls. The cultural exchange brought about a deeper understanding of the unity that prevails through diversity. That night, the participants celebrated a history-themed party at the MAXXI Museum. The high adrenaline beats of the local Italian pop music bounced off the walls, fueling a wild mosh pit and spontaneous breakdancing, as the crowd fed off the electrifying energy pulsing through the room.

1st April brought the plenary and final session at LUISS University. With a sense of fulfilment and accomplishment, the final day concluded with closing debates and resolutions. The purposes of the 18 committees were fulfilled. As discussions ended, the delegates were proud of the work well done. The closing ceremony was the culmination of the conference as we eagerly awaited the awards, which were testament to the effort we had put in.

Then came the final day when the delegation bid farewell to their hosts and the city they had come to love. With heavy hearts and full suitcases, they departed – not just with souvenirs, but with stories, memories, bonds that would last a lifetime, and bags of pasta. The eighteenth edition of RIMUN 2025 was a week that changed our outlook on life and brought about a renaissance of societal and cultural appreciation.
