RIMUN 2024
On 12th March 2024, the delegation departed from the Mumbai International Airport, and a couple of hours later they were in the City of Pizza and the Colosseum, Rome, for the seventeenth edition of Rome International Model United Nations. As soon as they arrived, they registered at the Liceo Farnesina School, where the conference was held and after which, they had the much-awaited opportunity of meeting their hosts for the next week. Students spent the rest of the day getting to know their host and being familiarized with the city.
The next day, they further explored the smallest country on our planet. At the Vatican City, they admired the brilliance of St. Peter's Basilica and the intricate beauty of the Sistine Chapel's ceiling adorned with the picturesque artwork of Michelangelo. They were awestruck by the priceless artworks and historical artefacts as they walked through the museums. The beauty and serenity of St. Peter's Square left a lasting impression, and they thoroughly enjoyed the spiritual and cultural significance of this historic site.
On the third day, the delegates attended the opening ceremony at the Palazzo dei Gruppi Parlamentari, Via di Campo Marzio, and that marked the beginning of their experience as a chair at RIMUN XVII. They gained insight into ethics in the contemporary world from a number of speeches on the same. After the opening ceremony, the delegates spent the afternoon further exploring the city on a walking tour, admiring the beauty of the Trevi Fountain and the streets of Rome.
The next day, delegates spent time in their committees, lobbying. It was extremely interesting to see delegates working together to produce effective and practical solutions providing holistic approaches to common agendas. After which they discussed their first resolution. Chairing discussions was both informative and amusing. To hear delegates sharing their country’s perspectives on the issue, in the form of active debate and insightful expressions was truly an intriguing experience. After lobbying delegates spent the evening with their hosts, experiencing the life of a local in Rome. The chair’s dinner was an opportunity to not just interact with the other chairs but also taste pure Italian delicacies from the Pizza quattro formaggi (four cheese pizza) to the most delectable pasta. They spent the next few days of the trip working in committees, chairing intense debates. They also attended the RIMUIN official party and went on another walking tour to see the Colosseum. Which was an enlightening experience and echoes of the past reverberated within its ancient walls, making it a perfect conclusion to this trip. The closing ceremony the next day, marked the end of our experience. The delegation landed back in Mumbai on 21st March, carrying home with them lifelong memories, new experiences and knowledge. It was both a culturally and intellectually stimulating experience for the entire delegation.
