Reading Learning Walk at DAIS : Fostering a Love for Reading in Our Students

At DAIS, we recognize the profound impact of reading, on education and personal development, echoing Dr. Seuss's wisdom: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go." We are committed to working collaboratively with both our school and home communities, to cultivate a deep and enduring passion for reading in our children. This endeavour opens doors to boundless opportunities, enriching students’ lives in countless ways.

We firmly believe that instilling a love for reading at an early age grants our students a significant advantage in expanding their vocabulary, fostering independence, and nurturing self-confidence. Additionally, it equips them to comprehend not only the world around them but also the individuals inhabiting it. Reading cultivates essential social-emotional skills, and sparks imagination, curiosity, and creative thinking.

Recently, we hosted the 'Reading Learning Walk' for parents of students in Classes 1 to 5. During this event, parents had the privilege of delving into the various reading processes and strategies employed at the Primary school. They engaged with four distinct reading stations, each showcasing a unique facet of our reading program: interactive read-aloud, guided reading, unit-related reading, and independent reading. This hands-on experience provided parents with invaluable insights into how a reading culture is cultivated within our school community.

Furthermore, our dedicated educators shared valuable strategies with parents to encourage and support their children's reading habits at home. We firmly believe that together, we can continue to nurture the love for reading in our students, equipping them with skills and knowledge that will serve as the foundation for a bright and successful future.
