VISIT TO THE PIRAMAL MUSEUM OF ART : Traversing Terrains – S.H.RAZA

1st OCTOBER 2018

The Primary Art Core children made a visit to the S. H. Raza exhibition hosted by the Piramal Museum of Art, on Monday, 1st October 2018.

The children were taken on a guided tour spanning decades, on the life of S. H. Raza, from 1940- 2016. Sayed Haider Raza was a renowned Indian painter who abandoned the expressionistic landscape, for a geometric abstraction replete with icons from Indian cosmology as well as philosophy. He is most famous for his works on the ‘Bindu’.

His life story was brilliantly exhibited in 4 sections that highlighted his artistic progression that coincided with the choices he made that shaped his life story.

Our guide, Ms.Anita Yewale made the session interactive and interesting for the children. At every point she asked the children to observe his style and how his art evolved through the phases and travels in his life. The children were very receptive and were able to understand the art influences, of the artist, owing to their previous knowledge of their school artwork.

After the guided tour, the children were given a whole lot of activities to explore and engage critically with the exhibition. They were also given quizzes, puzzles and colouring sheets. There were two tactile centres – a magnetic board of shapes, on which the children could create their own Raza; and a centre of Razas work, that could also be felt and had information in Braille.

It was exciting to accompany the children through a detailed journey, discovering the life and work of the famous artist S. H. Raza.

A truly enriching experience for our children!
