Moment of Joy - creating value through sports

Moment of Joy is a group of students from DAIS looking to spread awareness about the power of sport and the “moments of joy” that it can create.

 

Unfortunately, there are scores of underprivileged children in our city who do not have access to facilities to play sports, nor do they have the equipment to do so.

 

 

As active and mindful citizens of our city, we wished to take action to ameliorate this situation. This is why we, at Moment of Joy, have taken up the task of providing athletic funding, equipment and training to support the athletic needs of India’s rural and underprivileged talent pool. We realize the importance of sport in every child’s life, as each individual is encouraged to participate in sporting activities that engage them physically and mentally.

 

In August, we held the first edition of ‘Coach to Coach’ where we organized a platform for sporting experts to communicate with over 250 Municipal coaches and help them update their training techniques.

 

 

Subsequently, we also organized one of our largest donation drives, where we collected equipment for children in the Municipal schools of Maharashtra. We have also conducted numerous sporting matches for the young athletes of Baljeevan, EAR, The Association for the Welfare of Mentally Handicapped and Salaam Bombay Foundation.

 

We have raised funds through our Squash Tournament, held at Khar Gymkhana that will go to support 10 deserving athletes from Municipal schools across Maharashtra on their journey to State and National victory. We will also be donating a share of our funds to the Association for the Welfare of the Mentally Handicapped, Maharashtra that supports India’s differently abled talent at several levels including the Special Olympics.

 

This year, we had joined hands with Khar Gymkhana and Reliance Foundation, in order to organize our 4-star, 5-day squash tournament in collaboration with Squash Racquets Federation of India (SRFI) at Khar Gymkhana!

 

This year's tournament has been surreal for all of us, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of our team members, sponsors and our participants - without them, none of this would have been possible! And once again, we want to give our heartiest congratulations to all of our talented winners! Everyone played brilliantly this year, and more importantly, each player displayed umpteen amounts of sportsmanship during and after their games.

 

This tournament was an overwhelming and wonderful experience for each and every one of us, here at Moment of Joy!
