Junior DAIMUN 2024
The Dhirubhai Ambani International School’s annual THIMUN conference returned for its 20th edition in 2024. With 9 committees, 19 participating schools, and over 500 delegates, DAIMUN 2024 left an indelible mark. Our committees’ engaging agendas sparked fiery debates and inspired passionate speeches from numerous delegates. Our committees included Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN), Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM), Committee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), Human Rights Council (HRC), Sustainable Development Committee (SDC), Security Council (SC), Historic Security Council (HSC), and the International Courts (IC). In addition, our illustrious Press Corps covered the conference on paper as well as digitally, and the logistics of the conference were managed by the efficient Administration department.
The conference commenced with lobbying, where delegates formed blocs and alliances as they developed familiarity with the THIMUN procedures and formal debate. The theme of the conference was “Diversity, Democracy, Diplomacy”, which challenged delegates to engage in fruitful debate and deliberate on the main ideas of the conference and how they interplayed with our committee-specific agendas.
By the end of the first day, delegates transformed into fearsome leaders and claimed charge over the pressing issues they had to discuss. As a flurry of suits and dresses entered the auditorium on Day 2, DAIMUN 2024 was declared open by our Secretary General, Kiara Maniar. The esteemed chief guests, Sir D.B. Venkatesh Varma, former Indian Ambassador to Russia, and Dr. Harsh Pant, Vice President of Studies and Foreign Policy at the Observer Research Foundation, had an insightful discussion with our Deputy Secretary Generals, Rushaan Agarwal and Veer Mehta, along with a Q&A session with the audience. Delegates then proceeded to start the debate, passing and rejecting resolutions, as well as engaging in significant discussions with each other. On Day 3, committees continued with their proceedings to bring the conference to a satisfying conclusion, ending the day with a much-needed social where delegates enjoyed refreshments and music. On Day 4, the general assemblies moved into Plenary, and a final round of debate ensued among all the specialised committees.
Then, the conference came to a momentous close with an entertaining aftermath video from the Videography team, which presented the numerous memories created at DAIMUN, as well as the final bang of the gavel from Ayaana Parekh, our President of the General Assembly.
