BKC school dumps old ways, recycles 3K-kg waste

Hindustan Times applauds #DAIS endeavor to reduce waste : ‘The pioneers of tomorrow emerge as responsible citizens!’

Over 100 students along with DAIS staff have been instrumental in an effort to recycle 3000 kg of garbage in the past 6 months’ time. The efforts are spearheaded by 25 students of Prakruti, the school’s eco-club. The vegetable waste is converted to manure which is used to nurture the campus grounds. Paper is segregated and a part of it is sent to the Acorn Foundation NGO, while the other section of paper is shredded to be used for paper mâché displays for Annual Exhibitions. Water saving drives initiated by the school, either by the adaptation of the Reverse Osmosis filtration process or apprising students about less water wastage, has helped the school to reduce water wastage by 53% The school’s adopted villages of Hassachipatti in Matheran and Khumbarghar near Patalganga have benefitted through this drive too: ‘Green bricks’ made from waste; solar lamps in 60 households and a rainwater harvesting tank !
