DAIS Students Shine at the AI Fellowship Summer Program @ MIT Media Lab

Three DAIS students were selected to participate in the prestigious AI Fellowship Summer Program at the MIT Media Lab, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, where young innovators from across the globe collaborated to design technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.

Over the course of the program, our students explored diverse domains—from education and sustainability to assistive technology—while applying cutting-edge AI models and tools to bring their ideas to life.

  • Dev Jyotika Suriya (Grade 11) developed S.H.E.I.L.A – AI Language Learning Assistant, an application designed to help learners, especially in low-resource settings, practice Hindi fluency independently. Using speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies, Dev built a tool that provides real-time pronunciation feedback, vocabulary flashcards, and sentence-level corrections through an intuitive Streamlit interface.

  • Aarthit Prabhu (Grade 8) created ECOMINDER – Smart Power. Every Hour, an AI-powered household energy optimization system that uses Random Forest Regression to predict energy consumption patterns based on weather conditions. His project reflects a strong interest in sustainability and demonstrated how technology can be harnessed to promote responsible energy use.

  • Tvishaa Prabhu (Grade 11) designed Track My Things, a computer vision–based smart tracker for Alzheimer’s patients. Using YOLOv8 and ByteTrack, she simulated a “visual memory” system that enables patients and caregivers to locate misplaced objects with ease—bringing empathy, innovation, and practical design together in one solution.
