The College Counselling Department supports DAIS students as they explore their interests, discover potential career pathways, and prepare for life beyond high school. Our aim is to help students and their families make informed, thoughtful decisions about the future, while approaching the university application process with confidence and a clear understanding of the options available to them.

Working with Students and Parents
Each student is assigned an individual counsellor from Grade 9, who provides guidance throughout their high school journey. In Grades 9 and 10, the focus is on self-discovery, career exploration and understanding university admissions. Students use online resources, including Cialfo, to explore their interests, identify potential career pathways and research courses and universities around the world. These insights also help inform their IB Diploma subject choices, which students discuss with their assigned counsellor in Grade 10.
During the IBDP years, college counselling focuses on researching universities, developing a balanced university list, and preparing well-structured applications. Individual counselling meetings, targeted workshops and a structured High School College Counselling Calendar help students navigate course selection, admissions requirements, standardised testing, application essays, supporting documents, scholarships, and deadlines. Cialfo helps students organise their research and applications, explore university requirements and review historical DAIS admissions data through its Scattergrams tool.
Throughout this process, counsellors encourage students to take ownership of their decisions and applications, with guidance tailored to their individual interests, goals, and requirements. Parents are valued partners in this journey. Through information sessions, college counselling conversations and access to relevant resources, they gain a clearer understanding of the options, expectations and timelines involved in university admissions. Open communication among students, parents and counsellors helps families approach the process with realistic expectations and a shared understanding of the student's goals, while supporting their growing independence.
Across high school, students and parents have opportunities to learn about university trends and updates through university visits, the annual Careers Fair, and the College Counselling newsletter. These opportunities allow families to meet university representatives, ask questions and gain insights into different institutions, courses, and campus experiences, helping them make informed decisions about the transition to higher education.
